In LOCKTALK the participants of LOCKWOOD introduce themselves or provide a platform for guest speakers from the neighborhood. On 5 April, the Latvian designer Sarmite Polakova, living in Amsterdam, will talk about her work; a mix of research, visual storytelling and material experiments.
In 2015 Polakova graduated from the Social Design department at the Design Academy in Eindhoven with her project 'Pineskins' that she has been further developing ever since. The project explores the materiality and potential of the skin of trees which is a byproduct of the tree cutting industry. The 'Pineskins' are a natural leather-like material with a short life-span, which the designer acknowledges and embraces. She uses special production techniques that go along with the lifespan and designs products that last only a few years.

Since June 2014 THE BOOKSTORE, a community-project that houses creatives in collaboration with housing associations Ymere and Stadsgenoot, is working in the Reimerswaalbuurt in Osdorp with the project LOCKWOOD. In collaboration with Ymere the project houses 20 artists in the Schoonboomstraat and Willemskerkestraat.
LOCKWOOD houses designers, artists, writers and musicians. A group within which a continuous exchange of expertise and talent takes place. The participants of the project actively work in the neighbourhood in exchange for an affordable rent. In this light, LOCKWOOD organises various activities in two project spaces: the LOCKWOOD Projectspace and Het Reimertje. For more information about the activities visit our website or Facebookpage.
