LOCKTALK #25 - Joris van Gennip
Should I stay or should I go
"Falling in love with a Turkish woman as a Dutch man is turning out to be more complicated than I thought. This talk will be about how it affects my work as a photographer and how quickly life can change its course.
Being caught between two countries is affecting my work. Love drove me towards Istanbul, it's culture and her culture is driving me away from it. As a photographer you are inspired by everything around you and inside you. But love is something which can also derail you. I'm in that phase now. Having to choose between me and us, between home or a new home, between being me or being us and letting go some part of me. Difficult for someone who is not used to choosing and is bad at it. What love can do to you, what being in between countries and cultures feels like and having to cope with the fact that you finally found someone who is at the same time seemingly unreachable. So in the end, should I stay or should I go?"
