FILM & CULTURE NIGHT // MINGHONG YU & GORAN TURNSEK
MA 12 DEC: 20:00 - 22:00

Minhong Yu and Goran Turnšek will give a joint presentation&performance about the relationship between identities and mediums in the system.

Minhong Yu stands simultaneously in two worlds and two systems, trying to start a dialogue between them. In the video installation Breathe, two screens have a conversation and create an atmosphere of tension between the two worlds. How can they find a relationship, a balance? With the use of flags – red, white and transparent – Minhong Yu evokes existing systems of power, resignation and openness and questions cliché notions of identity. Transparency can be the perfect camouflage. Breathe confronts opposing forces, and proposes a dialogue between poetry and rationality, centralisation and decentralisation as well as opacity and transparency.

Minhong Yu (China) is a researcher and designer based in Amsterdam. She graduated from Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam, Masters Rietveld Academie in 2016.

Goran Turnšek will talk about dance photography. Goran will reveal the system, which uses photography to register dance performances and makes photography medium succumbed to dance works. Then he will present photographers who brought fashion, music or visual art photography into the museum while exploring the boundaries of each field and who managed to push the boundaries of dance photography into documentary, fashion, landscape and still life. And lastly,  Goran will talk about possibilities offered by photographic medium for further development as well as integration of dance art into our society.

Goran Turnšek (Slovenia) danced on the professional level with Rogie&Company and Dance company Krisztina de Chatel.
