For the upcoming Vitrine Exhibition, Crystal Z Campbell will present visual research on the politics of care in art. This project is the first of a series of community based projects intersecting the aesthetics of health, science and art through accessible public portals. Campbell is a US artist of African-American, Filipino and Chinese who attended the Rijksakademie van beeldende Kunsten. Campbell's mixed-media work, performances and community projects are poetic excavations of unsettled historical narratives ranging from Henrietta Lacks' immortal cell line to the Jonestown Tragedy. Operating between minimalism, abstraction and selective figuration, Campbell uses art as a tool for agency, time-travel and interdisciplinary research. Campbell is interested in furthering the possibilities of art as an agent for social transformations, currently via projects combining art, science and public health.
